Passover
Passover (Pesach in Hebrew) is the Exodus celebration of the Jewish people freed from slavery in Egypt. It is Spring holiday, that lasts for eight days. Passover commences on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nissan and concludes on the 22nd of Nissan. The meaning behind the holiday is that G-d fulfills his promise to Abraham to redeem the Jews and do justice to their slave-masters. G-d commands the Jews to sacrifice one lamb per family and mark the Jewish doorposts with its blood. This would be a sign for G-d to "pass over" the Jewish homes as He slew the Egyptian firstborn - the last of ten supernatural plagues on the Egyptians.
The first days of Pesach emphasize the exodus from Egypt, Israel’s first redemption. The last days of Pesach emphasize the ultimate redemption by Moshiach.
