Kippot "yarmulka" (Jewish headcovering)

Product Description

Beautiful kippot hand made by Ethiopian Women. Available black or white with colorful decorative trim. Almaz ("diamond" in Amharic) is the vision of Miki Shapiro, a fashion and textile designer, who set it up in 1993 with the assistance of the Jewish Agency and JDC Israel.
In establishing the company, the founders had two main goals: The first was to provide livelihood for Ethiopian women who had a difficult time finding employment in the modern Israeli market; the second was to preserve and nurture the foundations of traditional Ethiopian art, such as embroidery incorporating them in modern designs in the spirit of the ethnic style so popular nowadays.
“It is custom not to walk under the heavens bareheaded” Orach Hayim 2:6
Though never legislative by the Sages, the custom of not going about bareheaded at any time – at home, in the Synagogue and outdoors – extends back several thousand years in time. In many ways, it has become a mark of Jewish piety.
“Cover your head, so that the reverence of Heaven be upon you” Shabbat 156b
